Great Barrier Reef Foundation with Google & UNESCO
You Can Now See the Great Barrier Reef In Stunning Detail, from Home
The Great Barrier Reef Foundation partnered with Google and UNESCO to launch a new digital catalog.
While massive system level change on a global scale will be needed to truly safeguard the world's reef ecosystems, the new Google Arts & Culture exhibit from the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, Google, and UNESCO can support efforts to protect the reef. Namely, the new exhibit tells the story of the reef and its protectors.
"This exhibit tells the story of the reef and of the Foundation's co-design work with the Reef's Traditional Owners—the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples—who are its caretakers," a statement about the new digital exhibit states. "Every day, the Foundation, the Traditional Owners, and their teams are working on hundreds of projects to safeguard the corals, and the endangered animals that live and migrate through the reef."
The exhibition can't give you the sensation of slowly sinking underwater as bubbles surround your body and the currents gently tug at you. But it could be one of the most important trips you've never taken. By staying at home and experiencing this natural and vulnerable wonder from behind the screen, you can hopefully be a part of ensuring that it continues to exist for generations to come.
